The Great War: World War I At Midway Village Museum

Midway Village Museum will host the 5th annual Great War event, a WWI military event that features over 225 re-enactors portraying soldiers and civilians from the United States and Europe in the museum’s historic village. Visitors engage in this unique historic, immersive experience with the opportunity to enter encampments, tour a reproduction 150 yard trench system, and watch large-scale narrated battle reenactments.

Engage in this Historic, Immersive Experience With These Featured Activities:

• Large scale battle reenactments featuring pyrotechnics
• WWI Tanks, including the FT-17 French tank
• Large scale WWI model airplane displays and flying demonstrations
• Tours of the 150 yard trench replica including bunkers
• Explore the exclusive Trench Train, also known as the Tin Turtle
• Displays of WWI weapons, equipment, and artifacts
• Live horses from the Cavalry units
• Lectures throughout the day by military experts
• Salvation Army donut dollies demonstrations
• Live musical performers with songs form the 1910s
• Battle skirmishes throughout the day in the village
• Movies from the 1910s shown on original equipment
• Militaria sales vendors with real and replica WWI equipment, clothing, books and artifacts
• Food vendors

A new feature is a special Saturday, April 7, evening only showing of  Buster Keaton Silent Films by the Traveling Bijou Theater with live accompaniment by the Rockford Wind Ensemble. Doors open at 6:30 pm.  Showing at 7 pm. 

This year’s events sponsors are:  HMC Products, UPS, and National Electrical Contractors Association.

Speakers presenting on World War I topics are a popular favorite at this special event.  Lectures area as outlined below with times and days.  The location for all lectures in inside the Church in the Village on the museum’s grounds during the special event.

Admission to the World War I special event are as follows:
Tickets: $12 adults, $6 children (3-17 years old), infants (0-2 years old) free, Museum Member are Free!  Admission excludes Silent Film showing.  Visitors can purchase tickets in-advance at the museum’s Gift Store or at the gates both days of the special event.

Event is rain or shine.  Free parking and ATMs are available at the event.  Bags will be checked by security upon event entry.  No pets allowed, service animals are permitted.  Only registered reenactors may wear historic military uniforms.
